6 Days To Air

One for all you die-hard South Park-ateers out there…

Matt Stone and Trey Parker, after years and years of secrecy, let cameras into South Park Studios for fans to get a glimpse at the work they put in, and the pure stress and that goes into producing the show.

Having written, produced and directed the most success musical in a decade, ‘The Book of Mormon’ (rumoured to be coming to London in 2012!!), and winning 9 Tony’s in the process, Parker & Stone are still writing, producing, directing and starring in, 14 episodes of South Park each and every year.

Directed by Arthur Bradford, the documentary basically deconstructs the process of producing an episode stage by stage and in the finest detail. (a particular highlight for this episode “Humancentipad”, being the Exec Producer trying to explain that the episode would feature one character crapping in another’s mouth).

“We wanted to make something that would appeal to both the hard-core fans and the casual viewers,” said Bradford. “Trey and Matt are two of the most interesting people I know and the way they make South Park is completely fascinating and inspiring.”

Parker and Stone often have pre-planned plotlines or at least the basis for an idea, but in this case the process goes from concept, to production, to air in just 6 days and that for me is the most amazing thing. After all, an episode of Family Guy/The Cleveland Show/American Dad takes 9 months to produce, and despite a perceived drop in the quality on SP, it still beats the hell out of that Seth McFarlane shower of shit (comments welcome).

Anyway – no air date for the doc on Comedy Central UK as yet but keep an eye out. Otherwise, do a little browsing and you’ll find it somewhere.
